You might know Ryan Summer as the handsome actor popping up on your favorite British TV shows, but there’s so much more to his story. Before he was gracing the small screen, Ryan was dominating the tennis courts of Europe. Now, as a multi-talented actor, producer, and DJ, he’s ready to take Hollywood by storm—and we’re here for it.
Trading Tennis for Tinseltown
Ryan’s journey to stardom wasn’t exactly what you’d call “by the book.” Born Ryan Crampton, he spent his teenage years smashing tennis balls instead of memorizing lines. Ranked in the top 100 under 16 players in Europe, he had his sights set on going pro. But life had other plans. “Tennis was everything to me,” Ryan says. “But when it became clear that I wouldn’t make it to the professional circuit, I knew I had to pivot.”
That pivot led him to the world of tennis coaching, with a memorable stop in Santa Monica, California, where he spent four months teaching at summer camps. It was during this time that Ryan began to see life beyond the court. “Coaching was great, but I started to feel like there was something else out there for me,” he recalls.
The Birth of Ryan Summer
Fast forward a few years, and Ryan found himself back in the UK, building a career in the corporate world while helping his father, an actor-turned-director, produce short films. It was here that Ryan fell head over heels for the entertainment industry. And with that love came the decision to reinvent himself—enter the name Ryan Summer. “I’ve always loved my mother’s maiden name, Summer. It feels warm and inviting, which is exactly the vibe I wanted to bring to my career,” he explains.
As Ryan started exploring the world of film and television, things took an unexpected turn. A project management contract ended abruptly, leaving him in a financial bind. But instead of retreating back to his corporate background and connections, Ryan doubled down on his new passion. “I threw myself into acting. I joined an agency, started taking classes, and haven’t looked back since,” he says.
And it’s a good thing he did. Ryan quickly made a name for himself, landing roles on iconic British TV shows like Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and Brassic. His role on Emmerdale as a “Butler in the Buff” was supposed to be a one-off, but his performance left such an impression that the producers brought him back on the show as a recurring role. “It was such a fun role, and I’m excited about what’s next,” Ryan shares.
Telling Stories That Matter
Ryan is truly interested in exploring voices and stories that matter. Case in point: his work on the short film Mr. Boz, directed by British actor Andrew Ellis. The film, which centers on an elderly couple using cannabis for medicinal purposes, struck a chord with audiences. “So many people came up to me after screenings to share their own stories,” Ryan says. “It made me realize how important this film was.”
Ryan’s portrayal of a cannabis dealer with a heart of gold earned him high praise from the film’s writer, who said Ryan brought more to the role than they’d ever imagined. “It was such a lovely compliment. I wanted to add warmth and heart to the character, not just play a stereotypical drug dealer. If people connected with my character, then I know I did my job right,” Ryan reflects.
A New Chapter in Hollywood
With his acting and producing careers on the rise, Ryan is setting his sights on Hollywood. And it seems the stars are aligning for him. A recent reconnection with a friend in Santa Monica has led to new opportunities, including a role in the upcoming Los Angeles-based comedy series #WHATNEXT, starring Bollywood star Neetu Chandra and Marietta Melrose. “This opportunity comes at the right time.” Ryan says. “I’m ready to bring my unique look and natural ease in front of the camera to the U.S. market.”
DJ by Night, Actor by Day
As if acting and producing weren’t enough, Ryan is also a passionate DJ. “Music is another way I express myself creatively,” he says. “I’ve played at some amazing bars, clubs, and events, and it’s something I enjoy doing alongside acting. If Idris Elba can do it, so can I!” he laughs.
What’s Next for Ryan Summer?
With so much on his plate, what’s next for this multi-hyphenate talent? “My dream is to be part of a blockbuster film,” Ryan says. “I love TV series, but my first love is film. If I could be one of the leads in a big movie, working with top stars, that would be a dream come true. As Ryan prepares to make his mark on Hollywood, one thing’s for sure: he’s not just another actor. He’s a triple threat with the talent, drive, and ambition to take the entertainment industry by storm. Keep an eye on this one—he’s just getting started.
