Ansel Elgort  is an American actor, singer and DJ (as Ansølo) Elgort gained wider recognition for starring as a teenager with cancer in the romantic drama The Fault in Our Stars (2014) and for his role as support in The Divergent Series (2014-2016).

Before Fame

Elgort’s first professional acting appearance came months before he graduated from high school, just days after his 18th birthday, when he created a lead role in an off-Broadway production of Regrets.


In 2017, he played the title character in Edgar Wright’s action thriller Baby Driver, for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Family Life

Elgort was born in New York. His parents are Arthur Elgort, a fashion photographer who worked extensively for Vogue for over 30 years, and Grethe Barrett Holby, an opera director. Elgort’s father is of Russian Jewish descent and his mother is of Norwegian, English and German descent.

In April 2020, Elgort posted a photo of himself naked on social media as part of a fundraising campaign to feed those affected by COVID-19. On his 21st birthday, Elgort asked friends, family, and fans to donate to The Thirst Project.
