Britney Spears tied the knot with fitness coach Sam Asghari on Thursday night, with high-profile celebrities such as Madonna, Drew Barrymore, and Paris Hilton present in the ceremony.
Spears first met Asghari on the set of her music video for “Slumber Party” from her album Glory in 2016. They briefly started dating after their encounter.
The wedding becomes Spears’ third and Asghari’s first. In 2004, Spears tied the knot with childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander for just 55 hours. Her first marriage ended quickly with an annulment, and she went on to marry Kevin Federline the same year.
The couple’s marriage came to an end in 2007, but they shared two children, Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden, 15.
Hours before the wedding, Spears’ first husband was held by authorities for attempting to crash it. However, he claimed that his ex-wife issued him an invitation all on Instagram live – how convenient.
“She’s my first wife, my only wife. I’m her first husband. I’m here to crash the wedding,” he stated in a clip shot by TMZ.
Spears and Asghari’s wedding happened following a chaotic but hopeful whirlwind of events for the Grammy winner over the past few months. Thirteen years after living under a conservatorship, a jury’s verdict ordered the termination of the legal arrangement in November 2021, giving Spears the control over her estate and finances again.
After the ruling, Spears took to social media to express her gratitude to fans, writing, “I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!! Best day ever.”
“History was made today,” he wrote on social media, also celebrating the legal victory as he has been supporting Spears during the court hearings. “Britney is free!”
Last September, Spears and Asghari revealed their engagement. The couple announced early this year that they were expecting a baby together – their first born.
However, in a joint Instagram statement in May, the couple said they had lost their “miracle baby.”
“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy,” it said. “This is a devastating time for any parent.”
“Our love for each other is our strength,” the statement concluded on a hopeful note. “We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support.”
