Daniel Jacob Radcliffe is an English actor and producer. He is best known for playing Harry Potter in the Harry Potter film series during his teens and early adulthood.
Radcliffe was educated in three independent boys’ schools: Redcliffe School, a day school on Redcliffe Square in Chelsea; Sussex House School, a day school in Chelsea’s Cadogan Square; and the City of London School, a day school on the north bank of the River Thames in London’s financial district (known as the City of London).
During this time, Radcliffe became one of the highest paid actors in the world, achieving worldwide acclaim, popularity and critical acclaim, and received many accolades for his performances on the series.
Radcliffe was born at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital, London, England. He is the only child of Alan George Radcliffe and his wife, Marcia Jeannine Gresham (nee Jacobson). His mother, who is Jewish, was born in South Africa and raised in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. His father grew up in Banbridge, County Down, Northern Ireland, in a “hard-working” Protestant family.
Radcliffe has contributed to numerous charities including Demelza Hospice Care for Children and The Trevor Project; the latter association awarded him its Hero Award in 2011.
