Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill is a British actor. He became popular for his portrayal of the DC Comics character Superman in the DC Extended Universe, as well as for Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher (2019-present).
He studied at St Michael’s Preparatory School in Saint Savior, Jersey, before attending Stowe School in Stowe, Buckinghamshire.
Cavill started his film career with a role in Laguna (2001) and Kevin Reynolds’ adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo (2002).
Cavill was born the fourth of five boys in Jersey, Channel Islands, to a Catholic family. His mother, Marianne Dalgliesh, was a bank secretary and his father, Colin Cavill, was a stockbroker.
An avid PC gamer since childhood, losing the call to play Superman due to World of Warcraft and attributing his experience to the video game series The Witcher before the show’s production as his motivation to seek the role by Geralt.
