Jennifer Hudson broke barriers on Sunday night.

The 40-year-old singer and actress have become part of the elite EGOT club. For context, an artist who snags all Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony Awards is said to be in this group: EGOT.

Hudson’s win on Sunday was awe-inspiring, as she snagged the Tony for her services as co-producer of A Strange Loop, which won the best musical award. She already had the Emmy, Grammy, and Oscar, completing the set of awards that made her qualified for the club.

Notable, Hudson made a joke in 2020 about her goal of joining the under 20 individuals with the most coveted milestone.

“I got a dog and named it Oscar, and then I won my Oscar. And then I got a dog and named it Grammy, and then I won the Grammy,” she stated. “So, I think I should get some dogs and name them Emmy and Tony – and it’ll give me good luck, and I’ll win. [They’re] like my good luck charms.”

Hudson won an Oscar for the best-supporting actress category in 2007 for her character in Dreamgirls, two Grammys for the 2009 best R&B album and best musical theater album for the musical The Color Purple in 2017, and snatched a Daytime Emmy last year for the short, animated film, Baba Yag, which she voiced and co-produced.

The EGOT Club has grown to include 17 people now that Hudson has reached the achievement.
