Gerard “Ogee” Allen, a hip-hop artist from Harlem and the Bronx, firmly believes in chasing his dreams without hesitation. As a father of four (three boys and one girl) and a grandfather of ten, he has never wavered in his self-belief and passion for rap. Known as Ogee1523, he has truly lived up to his name as a father, grandfather, mentor, and inspiration to all generations in his community.

Ogee1523’s mother passed away in March 2019, leaving behind a legacy of strength, spirituality, and unfiltered honesty. “My mother was one of a kind,” Ogee1523 reflects, “and I wanted to keep that good spirit of hers floating in the air.” This desire culminated in the creation of “MaMa,” a track that encapsulates his mother’s profound influence on him and his family. The process of developing the lyrics and melody for ‘MaMa’ was an emotional rollercoaster for Ogee1523. Memories of his mother’s distinct personality and her encouraging spirit inspired the creative process, transforming grief into art. “Just by me thinking of lyrics for the song was emotional for me,” he admits. However, instead of dwelling in sadness, Ogee1523 chose to celebrate his mother’s life through music, creating a ‘sad happy song’ that provokes thought while invoking a sense of joy and resilience.
Despite the skepticism and negativity that Ogee1523 has encountered throughout his career, his unique approach to music has set him apart.
