Russell Ira Crowe is an actor, film producer, director and musician. Although he is a New Zealand citizen, he lived most of his life in Australia.

Before Fame

When Crowe was four, his family moved to Sydney, Australia, where his parents took up careers in catering. The producer of the Australian TV series Spyforce was his mother’s godfather and Crowe (at age five or six) was hired for a line of dialogue in one episode, opposite series star Jack Thompson (in 1994, Thompson played Crowe’s character father in The Sum of Us). Crowe also appeared briefly in The Young Doctors series.


In 2014 Crowe made his directorial debut with the drama The Water Diviner, in which he also starred. Crowe’s work has earned him several awards throughout his career, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, two Golden Globes, a BAFTA and an Oscar out of three consecutive nominations (1999, 2000 and 2001)

Family Life

In 2001 Crowe and Spencer reconciled and got married two years later in April 2003. The wedding took place at Crowe’s Cattle Estate in Nana Glen, NSW, with the ceremony taking place on Crowe’s 39th birthday. The couple have two sons: Charles Spencer Crowe, born December 21, 2003 and Tennyson Spencer Crowe, born July 7, 2006. In October 2012, it was reported that Crowe and Spencer had split up.

Associated With

Crowe donated $ 200,000 to a struggling primary school near his home in rural Australia. The money was used for an $ 800,000 project to build a swimming pool at the school.
