Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman is an American actress and singer. She began her career as a child model and background dancer before reaching fame with her role as Rocky Blue on the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up (2010–2013).

Before Fame

At the age of eight, Zendaya joined a dance troupe called Future Shock Oakland that focused on hip-hop and hula dancing, and was a member of it for three years. She attended the CalShakes Conservatory program and at the American Conservatory Theater. Her other stage credits include Richard III, Twelfth Night and William Shakespeare’s As You Like It.


Zendaya started her professional career working as a model for Macy’s, Mervyns and Old Navy.

Family Life

Coleman was the only child of Claire Marie (Stoermer) and Kazembe Ajamu (aka Samuel David Coleman). She has five older half-siblings from her father’s side. Her father is African American with roots in Arkansas, while her mother is of German and Scottish descent.

Associated With

Zendaya made her feature film debut as Michelle in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was released in July 2017. The film grossed $117 million in its first weekend, ranking number one at the box office.
