Who Is This Musical Storytelling Phenom “The ATG”

Birth name Ashwin Ganesan AKA “The ATG”  this global Detroit native artist/producer/composer is quietly growing into a juggernaut of the entertainment industry. With 250 written publications abroad and here in America it’s safe to say his mark is being made with him paving his own way at the same time. Whether it’s working with D-12’s Swifty McVay, Hip Hops elite producer’s like Scott Storch & ATL Jacob he definitely has the attention of the influential movers & shakers that matter in the music industry. With Hip Hop Legend Brownsville, Brooklyn native M. O. P. member Billy Danze is quoted calling “The ATG” the “European Dr. Dre”. His ability to produce every genre of music while applying layers of classical overtones that seamlessly blend together is genius and chameleon-like.

Listening to his music you’ll definitely need popcorn because it sounds like you’re in a movie theater. With inspiration mostly coming from within and sometimes catching a vibe from other past composers (Hans Zimmer) or known Hip Hop producers (Dr. Dre) he forms a style of his own. He’s also a master engineer constantly staying ahead of the curve of the new sounds and equipment that is constantly evolving. His debut single called “Outside” is a mixture of classical and Hip Hop overtones that take on a journey into his lyrical & musical realm. Kyyba Music’s recording artists such as Chicago native rapper Lil Reese, female artist TeeCee Rou’Lette & R&B singer Justin Love have all benefited from his abilities. He’s also produced a hit single with actor Omar Gooding called “Paranoid” which also featured “GV Prakash” & “SA-ROC” which got major buzz amongst the Djays nationwide. 

Currently he’s working with creative director/artist developer Maiko Fukudo to perfect his stage performance and craft as an artist. It’s in his DNA to be a trailblazer and perfectionist. His work ethic in the studio is like the late Kobe Bryant workouts in the gym, very intense! Surprisingly his mother told him he had a nice voice and should consider being a rapper as well. Being a producer firsthand his transition to an artist was a piece of cake considering his constant contact with the artists he’s cultivating in the studio. Let’s Talk Tyler Perry’s Ruthless Season 3! What was is like for you tapping into the role of Cult-Member “Josiah”? 

It was fun & rewarding. Even before Mr. Perry brought me back & I went from “Cult Member” to “Josiah”, deep down I knew I was always Josiah. 

Did you find any similarities between you and him? 

Yes, I did. Josiah is loyal, helpful, and a hopeless romantic (so am I). He’s initially at The Compound like everyone else, to feel accepted & loved. 

Is there something that surprised you about Josiah? 

I did not expect Josiah to catch feelings for Zane, or anyone for that matter, but he did. 

What was it like working with Tyler Perry? 

Fast & freeing. Because Mr. Perry films so fast (north of 115 pages a day), I went into each scene having a solid idea of what I wanted to do, but then the complete freedom to play with my scene partners and create something together. 

Do you have a favorite moment or Scene working with him? 

Absolutely! One day I was walking out of The Compound and Mr. Perry happened to be walking, alone, back into it. We were about 10 seconds from passing each other so in my mind I began to prepare for him to simply smile & say “Hello” after which I’d say “Hello, sir” and then that would be it. However, as we approached each other he looked up at me, smiled and said “hey, great job today”. I had to mentally pinch myself to keep from being totally speechless (lol). I responded “wow, thank you sir”. Around midnight when I was home & picture-wrapped, I received a phone call from the AD: “Hey, so Mr. Perry likes you and is going to bring you back”. Thank you Mr. Perry!

Do you have a favorite Ruthless character? 

If so, why? 

The Elder Mother is the embodiment of the Rakudushis. She is also freaking hilarious!

If you were stuck on an island with 3 ruthless cast members who would they be and why? 

Zane, for love. Ruth, for order & figuring out a way to get off the island. And Wilson (from the movie Cast Away), because you can’t be stuck on an island and NOT have Wilson (lol). 

Is TJ Jackson Single? 

Yes, I am. 

Are there any KEY things you look for in a relationship?

 I am looking for a woman I can build, grow, and win with. Someone who understands that we are two individuals choosing to partner up and take on this thing called life, together. 

Do you have a celebrity crush? 

I do actually. Zendaya.

If you could be anyone for one day, who and why? 

I’d love to have Denzel Washington as my personal & professional mentor. So if that never happens then I’d like to be him for one day to pick my own brain, and learn everything I need to know for a long & successful career in this industry. 

Millions have watched you in Films and TV shows, what piece of advice would you give aspiring actors? 

Learn to love who you are (flaws and all), and know that you are enough. 

If you could work with any actor and director who and why? (Dead or Alive) 

I would’ve loved for Spike Lee to direct a film called “Able” where I play the role of Abel, the late Chadwick Boseman plays my brother Cain, and our father Adam is played by Denzel Washington. Just…wow.

What’s something most would be surprised to learn about you? 

The scar I have on my face is a result of me running from a whooping when I was a child (lol). I was running around the living room glass table when I slipped and fell on the corner of it. Coincidentally, my father has a scar from a similar story but on the opposite side of his face. Guess it “runs” in the family (lol).

Outside of Acting, what’s something you genuinely love to do? 

I genuinely love helping people learn how to generate & build passive income, especially other actors. I recently started a mentorship program called “The Wealthy Actor” with the purpose of helping others build generational wealth one backyard at a time. I also love playing tennis!

Favorite Quote?

The sky is not the limit, it’s only the beginning…so dream big!

Knowing what you know now, What’s something you would tell your younger self? 

Don’t stress over things you can’t control. Focus on what you can control, and what you can’t, say a prayer and give it to God.

I literally just finished my first book titled “The Wealthy Actor” on December 31, 2022. I’m really excited about this book and the mentorship program growing & helping as many actors/artists as I can. 2023 is going to be a great year!

Academy Awards 2023: What Can We Expect from Canadian movies, actors, and actresses before the Nominees’ Announcement?

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are the most prestigious awards in film. Since its inception in 1929, the awards have been a platform for recognizing excellence in cinema from around the globe. Being the 95th edition of the event, you can guarantee there will be plenty of eyes on the spectacle.

Indeed, an increase in viewership could be experienced at this year’s awards following the debacle of last year’s show. It will go down in history as the one that saw Will Smith slap Chris Rock after making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. Rock has since declined to host this year’s edition. Jimmy Kimmel will host it for the third time as a result.

Award Season is Getting Closer & Closer

Naturally, every year around this time, Hollywood buzz begins to fill the air. People across the world start speculating about who will take home the coveted Oscar for Best Picture or Best Actor. This year, Canadians are looking to make their mark on what is arguably the world’s most popular award show.

The nominees for this year’s awards are set to be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. This will have only upped the excitement surrounding the events, with many in Canada hoping to reap the rewards. There are a number of actors and actresses that have had stellar performances that hail from the Great White North. Notwithstanding, there have been a number of excellent films to have stood out that emanate from the Maple Leaf nation, too!

With that said, it is perhaps wise to take a look at who and what could be nominated within each of the top categories.

Best Picture

The Award for Best Picture is one that is always particularly eye-catching. As it stands, there are a handful of contenders that could make the cut. Unfortunately for Canada, though, it would appear there does not seem to be a film from the region likely to be in the nominees on Tuesday. While we have seen a number of exceptional titles, including “Brother” & “Turning Red,” to have been released in 2022, the list of nominations are expected to be dominated by films from elsewhere.

Among the leading candidates for the Oscar for Best Picture, movies include “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “The Fabelmans,” and “The Banshees of Inisherin.” Others like “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “Tár,” are also likely to be in the running for the converted award.

Indeed, given the financial backing that many of these movies will have had, as well as the quality of the production, it would not be a surprise to see these out-beat their Canadian counterparts.

Best Actor

If the Best Picture movie category is not considered the biggest award of the night, then the Best Actor gong perhaps is. Indeed, it is one of the few moments during the Academy Awards ceremony that continues to generate a hype outside of the movie industry. Almost everyone seems to have an interest in this particular section of the night.

From movie enthusiasts to casual onlookers, the award has also become a popular betting market. Many punters like to use this market as an opportunity to enjoy the event and enhance it further. Indeed, it is hardly a surprise that this is one of the Oscars’ favorite markets to bet on for players, as it is usually up for grabs between some of the most acclaimed actors in the business, and this year should be no different.

Canada may have a winner in this category, as American-born Canadian Brendan Fraser is thought to be among the frontrunners. He put in an incredible performance as the lead actor in “The Whale”; some describing it as a comeback performance for the actor.

Nonetheless, it would not be a surprise if there is an Irish feel to the Best Actor nominations. Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Paul Mescal (“Aftersun”) are thought to be in the running, while British legend Bill Nighly (“Living”) is a contender. Rounding out a top five could be “Elvis” star, Austin Butler, with the American portraying the “King of Rock” Elvis Presley in an awe-inspiring showing.

Best Actress

Notwithstanding, the award for Best Actress is also among the stellar golden statues on offer at the Oscars. Again, the 95th edition of the Academy Awards should not fail to disappoint in regard to the nominations.

When looking at the top five contenders for this prize category, it does not appear that a Canadian actress will be the winner. In fact, the award may not be going to a female from North America, as the two favorites to win are from Australia and Malaysia, respectively.

Cate Blanchett’s performance in the film “Tár” is one that has been widely recognized and praised, as has Michelle Yeoh’s display in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Both were nominated at the Screen Actors Guild, the Golden Globes, and the Critics Choice Awards. Many expect them to be nominated at the Oscars.

However, it is also worth looking at three Americans as potential contenders. Viola Davis was also named by the aforementioned awards shows for her role in “The Woman King,” while Danielle Deadwyler’s staring role in “Till” earned her recognition. Michelle Williams might be an outsider, but her showing in “The Fabelmans” – which could win the Best Picture – might be enough to give her the credit she deserves.

What Other Oscars Should Fans Keep An Eye On?

While the three aforementioned categories are, arguably, the main ones, there are many others to keep an eye on. 

Best Supporting Actor is usually a highly coveted award, as is Best Supporting Actress. Additionally, Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song are two categories that tend to attract attention. Generally, fans of the Academy Awards should keep their eyes peeled for all of the major Oscars on offer.

Canadian Movie Industry Continues To Move Forward

Regardless of who wins the Academy Awards, one thing is for certain: the Canadian movie industry continues to move forward. This 95th edition of the Oscars could certainly be a watershed moment for many countries, but Canada will particularly be looking at their nominations with pride.

The country’s actors, directors, and producers have been putting in incredible work over the last few years, and this could be their moment to shine. Even if they do not succeed in claiming any golden statuettes, Canada should rest easy knowing that they have contributed some remarkable films to the movie industry, and that is something worth celebrating.
