LGBTQIAA+ Icon, Activist and Model Elton Ilirjani, is Walking Four Shows at Seoul Fashion Week

Elton Ilirjani, the Albanian-born model, LGBTQIIA+ icon, and activist, is set to walk in four shows at the upcoming Seoul Fashion Week, one of Asia’s most prestigious fashion events. The shows will take place from March 15th to 19th, 2023, and will feature 30 Korean fashion designer brands, with the attendance of some 130 buyers from 27 foreign countries. In addition to the runway shows, various events featuring a fusion of fashion and innovative technology will also be held.

Elton Ilirjani is walking on the runway not just for himself, but for the entire movement. “We need more genderless models to be seen on the runway, all across the world, and to be seen and be heard,” he explains. In an interview with New York Weekly, Elton said, “Genderless models are the very first step into freedom in the fashion industry, which for me, is so controlled and subjective, and sometimes very abusive.”

Ilirjani’s involvement in the fashion industry is not just about showcasing his unique style and androgynous look; the visionary model is also using his platform to advocate for greater inclusion and diversity in the industry. As an LGBTQIIA+ activist and founder of the Dignity Global Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on protecting the human and civil rights of women and the LGBTQIIA+ community, Ilirjani has been a strong voice for change.

His efforts to promote equality and acceptance have earned him recognition not only within the fashion industry but also in the corporate world. Elton is the founder and director of The HeadHunter Group, a global recruitment company with offices in 15 countries. Elton Ilirjani made history as the first publicly gay man in Albania when he came out of the closet to the media in 2006. His courage and commitment to the cause have led him to spearhead two transgender acceptance campaigns, the “Lipstick Movement” and the “Nobody is Straight” movement for LGBTQIIA+ inclusivity.
