Long before the packed venues and expanding online presence, DJay Mando recognized something missing within Milwaukee’s nightlife scene. In the beginning, growth did not come easily. Like many entrepreneurs starting from the ground up, DJay Mando worked with limited resources, smaller venues, and little outside recognition. “There wasn’t some huge master plan in the beginning,” he said. “I just knew Milwaukee needed a different type of energy. I felt like people wanted experiences that actually felt exciting and authentic instead of repetitive.”
Instead of replicating nightlife trends from larger markets, he focused on understanding Milwaukee’s audience directly. Through social media promotion, crowd interaction, strategic branding, and consistency, OnWhat?! MKE gradually developed a loyal following.

One major milestone came with the transition into larger venues, including The Rave / Eagles Club, one of Milwaukee’s best-known entertainment venues. The move represented a significant step forward for both the business and DJay Mando’s development as an entrepreneur.
“It was honestly crazy seeing how fast everything grew,” he said. “Every venue eventually became too small. But that pressure forced us to evolve and operate on a higher level.”
Behind the scenes, the expansion required far more than organizing events. DJay Mando found himself balancing multiple responsibilities at once, including DJing, marketing, branding, logistics, partnerships, creative direction, and business strategy.
While audiences often only see the final experience, he says the process involves constant pressure, preparation, and problem-solving.
“There are a lot of sleepless nights people don’t see,” he explained. “People see the videos and the crowds, but they don’t always see the stress, the preparation, or the responsibility that comes with trying to build something real.”
Those challenges also helped shape his long-term approach. Rather than viewing OnWhat?! MKE as simply a nightlife company, he increasingly began building it as a scalable cultural brand capable of extending beyond individual events.
Social media became an important part of that expansion. Through organic crowd engagement, event content, and consistent branding, the company reportedly generated significant online momentum without relying heavily on traditional advertising.
Despite the rapid growth of online, DJay Mando says the focus has always remained centered on the people attending the events and supporting the brand.
“We work for people and for our city,” he said. “That’s always been the mindset. If people spend their money and time with us, we want them to leave feeling like they experienced something worth remembering.”
That philosophy has helped establish strong loyalty among attendees while differentiating the brand from competitors focused primarily on profit instead of audience experience.
For DJay Mando, success is measured not only through business growth but through cultural impact. He believes nightlife can positively influence communities by creating connections, opportunities, and memorable experiences for young audiences.
As Milwaukee’s entertainment scene continues evolving, brands like OnWhat?! MKE is increasingly becoming part of the broader conversation surrounding the city’s next generation of entrepreneurs and cultural leaders.

“You have to stay adaptable,” he said. “Things go wrong constantly in business. But if your vision is strong enough, you figure it out and keep moving.”
Looking ahead, he envisions larger concerts, festivals, collaborations with nationally recognized artists, and partnerships with major entertainment brands. At the same time, he hopes OnWhat?! MKE continues helping elevate Milwaukee’s presence within larger cultural conversations.
“I want to build something that puts Milwaukee in bigger conversations,” he said. “There’s so much talent and energy here. We’re just getting started.”
